Ladies Night was a Smash!

“Ladies Night” for Steel Magnolias at the Midvale Main Street Theatre was a complete Smash! The night started with free professional photos of groups of friends in “Southern” attire. Each person received “goodies” as they entered the theatre. There were drawings for extra free prizes before and during Intermission of the nearly sold-out performance! The performance was superb and then to top it all off, each member of the audience was given gift bags on their way out of the theatre filled with hundreds of dollars worth of free gifts and opportunities provided by our Sponsors!

Thank you all so much for making this such a spectacular night; And ladies, if you missed this one, (or even if you had so much fun you would do it again), there are still a few tickets left for our next “ladies night” which is Friday, November 20th! Steel Magnolias Opening Night for Steel Magnolias at the Midvale Main Street Theatre was splendid! We want to specifically thank the audience who came out for opening night!

Opening Night at Main Street TheatreIt is opening night for Steel Magnolias and the theatre is abuzz with last minute touches! We are so appreciative and excited for the developments that have happened within our realm and we want to take a few moments to say thank you to some very special groups.

Marcella-Borrowman-WebAfter being involved with Community Theater in the Salt Lake Valley for many years, I am happy to be here at the Midvale Main Street Theatre.

Some of my favorite roles have included Queen Aggravaine, Once Upon A Mattress; Golda, Fiddler on the Roof; Mrs. Gibbs, Our Town; and Mrs. Paroo, Music Man.

Michele is tickled pink to be in the production of Steel Magnolias for Midvale Main Street Theatre and feels honored to be working with such a talented group of individuals. She has been away from the stage for a while and until recently has been hiding in the wings!  Her most recent role was as Amnesia in Nunsense for Murray City, she has also played various roles in Guys and Dolls, Anything Goes and was a stage manager for Hunchback of Notre Dame.

A graduate from the University of Utah, Michele majored in Journalism and minored in Theatre.  Go Utes!!  She is currently working in financial services after working in the television broadcast industry for 17 years.

Michele sends a special thank you to Eric McGraw for his inspiring direction and encouragement; to Tammy Ross and Wendy Smedshammer for the opportunity to make a great memory, and most of all to her friends and family for their love and support…especially her three little stars, CJ, Carter and Aliya Love you bunches!

Eric Mcgraw Directing Debut

Eric McGrawEric has been acting for twenty-some years, on stage and in film. He is a graduate of the University of Utah’s Actor Training Program. Upon graduation, he toured the southeastern states in “Cats”, “My Favorite Year”, and “White Christmas”.  He is ecstatic to begin a new chapter in his career as Director, with “Magnolias” at the Midvale Main Street Theatre being his debut.  Some of his favorite roles have been in productions of “Angels in America”, “True West”, “Boys in the Band”, “Twelfth Night”,  and “The Crucible”, to name a few.  He can be currently seen in leading roles in two independent films touring the country in film festivals, “Swimming to the Moon” and “Down a Dark Road”.  He additionally teaches acting at GuyzNDollz Performing Arts Academy in Murray, Utah.

She has been in multiple shows including, Annie Jr. (Grace), Snow White (Evil Queen), Footloose (Ariel), Wizard Of Oz (Dorothy), and much more. Cassidy is currently in her Senior year at Mount Vernon Academy. She enjoys singing, dancing, acting, reading, and playing volleyball.

Cathrine Jamie Wilcox

Jamie is thrilled to be a part of the Midvale Main Street Theatre production of Steel Magnolias.  A 2004 graduate of the University of Utah’s Actor Training Program, her credits there include Gin in The Trestle at Pope Lick Creek, Francis in Stags and Hens, Doug Schmidt in Execution of Justice, and Riddler in A Hard Heart.  While attending the University of Utah, she also had two of her short plays produced.  Recent credits include a reading of the one-woman-play My Name is Rachel Corrie for Utah Contemporary Theatre.  She is a children’s drama teacher for the Youth Theatre at the U.  Special thanks to this wonderful cast, fabulous director, Ryan, Eric, Penny Caywood, C & C, Sandra Shotwell, Sarah Shippobotham, her amazingly supportive family, and last but not least, her own little drama queen and most favorite person in the universe, Aidan.

Shalee Schmidt

Shalee Schmidt’s radiant voice is equally at home performing on the musical theater, opera, operetta, and recital stage. Her specialty is the character role where she excels as a musical storyteller. Her opera and operetta roles include “The Duchess” in The Gondoliers, “Papagena” in The Magic Flute, “Erata” in Orpheus in the Underworld, “Ludmilla” in The Bartered Bride, “an innkeeper” in Merry Wives of Windsor, and “Birdie” in scenes from Regina. Shalee’s musical theater roles include “Dolly” in Hello Dolly, “Sister Hubert” in Nunsense, “Dominique” in Lucky Stiff, and “Rapunzel” in Into the Woods. She has been a lead singer for a Brazilian band. Shalee loves singing and acting in stage and film productions, and recording vocals and voice-overs for all types of projects for companies such as Brite Music, Franklin Covey, Voce Productions, NuWorlds Productions, InAChord Productions, and Southwest Airlines.

Shalee Schmidt graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Utah with a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance.  She will complete her Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance with an emphasis in language diction this year at the University of Utah. Shalee was a departmental scholarship recipient and a finalist for the prestigious national Presser Scholarship for Music Majors.

Shalee is the co-founder and past Executive Director of the Salt Lake School for the Performing Arts. She is the co-founder and artistic director of Utah Light Opera, Gottasing Vocal Studios, and Voce Productions. She and her husband, David, are the co-creators of the “Voice Lessons with Dave and Shalee” CD set and “Gottasing.com” DVD series. Shalee enjoys teaching privately as well as, conducting performance and voice masterclasses at universities, high schools and music organizations and more. Shalee and Dave are the parents of four fabulous children.
