Magic

July 12, 2012

As the musical director , it has been my privilege to watch RENT come together, without all the stress of directing.

I love working with Tammy Ross. She is creative, generous, and she works with a vision. I am overwhelmed when I come to rehearsal and I see that vision unfolding. I have been trying to articulate the magic of rehearsals as I talk to friends and encourage them to come to see the show–(remember that we open in just one week!) But I can’t describe it. Aaron Ford’s choreography is clean and storied. The set is open and colorful–many thanks to our set painter Ryan Fallis and the set builders–including Joe Dutson.  Everyone who works at Midvale Main Street Theatre brings their heart to the  work. And you can feel it. But that heart starts with Tammy.

It is my privilege to work with her and to see her vision come to life. I took some rehearsal shots this week. the y are not in costume, but I’m hoping that the pictures will convey the magic better than my words.

Tickets are only $15. Live band. Amazing actors. Beautiful story.

Be A Star!

Guyz N Dollz

Spring Showcase!

Guyz N Dollz is featuring their performance teams at a Spring Recital at the Midvale Main Street Theatre! There will be two performances, each beginning at 7:00 p.m. on May 17 and May 18, 2010.

This is really fun, exciting entertainment and at only $1.00 per seat it is a terrific way to spend time with the entire family!

Sparkle is our youngest group with dancers ranging in age from 3-5 years old. They come to the theatre every Saturday morning and work on coordination, flexibility, and basic dance steps. They transform us back to the age of Disco with “Funky Town” & “We Are Family,” and what would this little group be without “Rockin’ Robin”?

The Dance Team Glitter is under the instruction of Alicia Dahl and has dancers that are ages 5-8. Most of them have some experience in dance and this is where they begin to add vocals to their dance performances. They will entertain us with “Boot Scootin’ Baby”, “Our Lips are Sealed” and “Reflection” from Mulan.

Attitudz is the elementary school, girls only, advanced group and is taught by Alicia Dahl and Gabriel Valle. This group of girls work very hard and are taught more advanced dance moves and vocals. Everyone in this group adds vocals to the performance. They will be delighting us with a Michael Jackson Medley along with a “Stars on 45” Medley. This group will be traveling and performing with us this summer on a cruise to Mexico!

Center Stage is another girls only group featuring our Junior High School Ladies. Their instructor, Danny Davis, works very hard and has this team reaching very high levels of achievement. Center Stage will also accompany us to Mexico with their Medleys, “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” and songs from the hit Broadway show Hairspray, including “You Can’t Stop the Beat.”

Spotlight is our combination group featuring young men and women ranging in age from 13-18. This is our most advanced group of students and are under the instruction of Mr. Danny Davis. He has worked with this group very hard to achieve their best and they have certainly succeeded. Their performance includes many songs from the new hit TV show Glee, including “Don’t Stop Believin”, “Jump”, “Walking on Sunshine”, and “Proud Mary”. Spotlight has been working all year on a Swing Medley and an amazing version of “Thriller” which they will perform on the Mexico cruise.

We invite you to come and enjoy these nights with us. If you or anyone you know may be interested in becoming involved with our Dance Teams, this would be the perfect shows to invite them to. We look forward to seeing all of you there!

We so appreciate your support!

The artwork for the poster was drawn by one of the students and more artwork in the programs by other students as well. I am very impressed with the progress of these students and excited to give them this opportunity.”

Michael Jackson Tribute Concert

April 26, 2010

The Performer Studio

presents

A Michael Jackson Tribute Concert

at the Midvale Main Street Theatre

WHY MJ? Because as a performer he was pure genius! His attention to detail and dedication to his craft provides such a rich landscape of material to learn from for young performers to strive to be their best. He also embodied the saying we use most at The Performer Studio: “Amateurs practice until they get it right, but Professionals practice until they CAN’T get it wrong.” -unknown author-

WHY THIS Tribute? Both students and audiences can learn a great deal about this incredible performance and pop music icon. His devotion to children, the Earth and justice in our world is monumental. His songs teach us, his actions as a private citizen teach us and his artistry teaches us about how to care better for our world and each other, how to get more out of life and how to honor who we each truly are as individuals.

WHY NOW? With his untimely passing last June, the sting of his absence still rings in our hearts. Kait Kingston-Eckman, as director of The Performer Studio, hopes to educate both our students and our audiences about the REAL Michael Jackson. I personally was one of the many, many people who went from being an avid fan back in the 1980’s to misunderstanding the many changes and media gossip that spread about MJ. I sadly was one of the people who judged him without knowing the full story. Since researching MJ for this tribute and working so closely with all the aspects of his repertoire with my students, I have come to know him in a very new and eye-opening way. One that made me so sad I had waited until after his passing to truly understand this amazing artist and human being. I bemoan the fact that I cannot ever experience seeing him perform live. I also think it important to “not judge a book by its cover” because until you have “walked a mile in his shoes” you cannot throw that first stone. I believe MJ was more widely loved all over the world than any other artist, possibly ever. And I ALSO believe that he was one of the most ostracized artists in the world…possibly ever as well. I hope with our small Tribute to his life and art we can help more people see his beauty than did before. It’s important to realize the beauty that we each have contact with while it is still in our lives. MJ wherever you are…we thank you and hope to make you proud with this small tribute. We miss you. We invite you all to join us in this tribute on May 8, 2010 for two performances (2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.) at the Midvale Main Street Theatre. Catching Up and Coming Up!

March 3, 2010

Hello Friends! We just wanted to take a moment and catch you all up on some of the recent events at the Midvale Main Street Theatre!

February was a huge month with All You Need Is Love! We also had a surprise performance at both performances of All You Need Is Love by Magician, Craig Campbell. You can click on these links and see fun clips of these performances!

We have redesigned and updated our kitchen and concessions areas and will begin having more selections for food as well as terrific gifts to support our performances available on a regular basis.

We have so many surprises coming up!

Poison Ivy Mysteries text

The first is the addition of a new production by Poison Ivy Mysteries! The new production, “DEATH…THE FINAL FRONTIER. MAY THE CORPSE BE WITH YOU,” will begin on March 19, 2010, at the Midvale Main Street Theatre at 7:00 p.m.

We are happy to introduce this Dinner/Theatre production that is certain to be an outstanding addition to our establishment.

The folks at Costa Vida are catering this event and will be serving their Costa Fiesta…you will have a choice of a Large Burrito with either chicken, pork, or beef with rice, beans and fabulous garnishes (lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream, guacamole, salsa, etc.) -or- a chicken, pork, or beef salad with crunchy corn chips and cheese, rice, and beans! Costa Vida

Now, the best part…the cost for this entire dinner/theatre event just as it is addressed above…$20.00 per person! What a terrific way to spend the evening doing something completely new!

That’s $10.00 for the theatre production and $10.00 for the meal. By the way, they are independent of one-another. You can see the production (and only pay for that) if you so choose.

We will also have our concessions stand open so that if someone in your group would rather have something different, we will have that available, too!

To purchase tickets for this production, please click on this Poison Ivy Mysteries Link.

We also have fantastic new items in our concessions stand and a fully staffed kitchen specifically for this occasion.

All seats are just $5.00. Curtain is at 7:00 p.m. tonight and the doors will be open by 6:30 p.m. Come on in early and have something to eat before the show!
