Pristeen Magazine Debut at the Midvale Theatre

July 14, 2010

Wow! This has been a whirlwind…in many ways it seems like Oz. So, let’s catch up!

First of all, we would like to extend a huge thank-you for the patience and flexibility so many of you have extended to us during our times of growth, our happy moments, our sad moments, and our “we have to reschedule this one more time” moments. You have been an awesome group and we are confidently moving forward into bigger and better things.

So here are some things that have happened along the way. We extended our stage so it is deeper, and we created a workable, usable balcony. Our balcony was broken in with the performances of the Main Street Theatre production of Footloose and the Michael Jackson Tribute by The Performer Studio under the direction of Kait Kingston-Eckman, and a fashion show presented by the new Pristeen Magazine.

Miss Utah Teen and Miss UtahWe were chosen by Producer, Dave Tucker, to debut Pristeen Magazine. The first edition, simply called “Teen” was to be released the next week, after which the name will change to Pristeen.

This was truly a night of elegance with a theatre filled with models, producers, directors, and VIP’s galore along with dance troups, live bands, a series of fashion shows, and so much more. At one point the emcee invited people from the audience to step onto the stage if they were interested in being a cover model for Pristeen Magazine, then they chose one to step into that position.

This was certainly a night to remember and we wish Pristeen Magazine amazing success.

Guyz N Dollz

Spring Showcase!

Guyz N Dollz is featuring their performance teams at a Spring Recital at the Midvale Main Street Theatre! There will be two performances, each beginning at 7:00 p.m. on May 17 and May 18, 2010.

This is really fun, exciting entertainment and at only $1.00 per seat it is a terrific way to spend time with the entire family!

Sparkle is our youngest group with dancers ranging in age from 3-5 years old. They come to the theatre every Saturday morning and work on coordination, flexibility, and basic dance steps. They transform us back to the age of Disco with “Funky Town” & “We Are Family,” and what would this little group be without “Rockin’ Robin”?

The Dance Team Glitter is under the instruction of Alicia Dahl and has dancers that are ages 5-8. Most of them have some experience in dance and this is where they begin to add vocals to their dance performances. They will entertain us with “Boot Scootin’ Baby”, “Our Lips are Sealed” and “Reflection” from Mulan.

Attitudz is the elementary school, girls only, advanced group and is taught by Alicia Dahl and Gabriel Valle. This group of girls work very hard and are taught more advanced dance moves and vocals. Everyone in this group adds vocals to the performance. They will be delighting us with a Michael Jackson Medley along with a “Stars on 45” Medley. This group will be traveling and performing with us this summer on a cruise to Mexico!

Center Stage is another girls only group featuring our Junior High School Ladies. Their instructor, Danny Davis, works very hard and has this team reaching very high levels of achievement. Center Stage will also accompany us to Mexico with their Medleys, “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” and songs from the hit Broadway show Hairspray, including “You Can’t Stop the Beat.”

Spotlight is our combination group featuring young men and women ranging in age from 13-18. This is our most advanced group of students and are under the instruction of Mr. Danny Davis. He has worked with this group very hard to achieve their best and they have certainly succeeded. Their performance includes many songs from the new hit TV show Glee, including “Don’t Stop Believin”, “Jump”, “Walking on Sunshine”, and “Proud Mary”. Spotlight has been working all year on a Swing Medley and an amazing version of “Thriller” which they will perform on the Mexico cruise.

We invite you to come and enjoy these nights with us. If you or anyone you know may be interested in becoming involved with our Dance Teams, this would be the perfect shows to invite them to. We look forward to seeing all of you there!

We so appreciate your support!

Michael Jackson Tribute Concert

April 26, 2010

The Performer Studio

presents

A Michael Jackson Tribute Concert

at the Midvale Main Street Theatre

WHY MJ? Because as a performer he was pure genius! His attention to detail and dedication to his craft provides such a rich landscape of material to learn from for young performers to strive to be their best. He also embodied the saying we use most at The Performer Studio: “Amateurs practice until they get it right, but Professionals practice until they CAN’T get it wrong.” -unknown author-

WHY THIS Tribute? Both students and audiences can learn a great deal about this incredible performance and pop music icon. His devotion to children, the Earth and justice in our world is monumental. His songs teach us, his actions as a private citizen teach us and his artistry teaches us about how to care better for our world and each other, how to get more out of life and how to honor who we each truly are as individuals.

WHY NOW? With his untimely passing last June, the sting of his absence still rings in our hearts. Kait Kingston-Eckman, as director of The Performer Studio, hopes to educate both our students and our audiences about the REAL Michael Jackson. I personally was one of the many, many people who went from being an avid fan back in the 1980’s to misunderstanding the many changes and media gossip that spread about MJ. I sadly was one of the people who judged him without knowing the full story. Since researching MJ for this tribute and working so closely with all the aspects of his repertoire with my students, I have come to know him in a very new and eye-opening way. One that made me so sad I had waited until after his passing to truly understand this amazing artist and human being. I bemoan the fact that I cannot ever experience seeing him perform live. I also think it important to “not judge a book by its cover” because until you have “walked a mile in his shoes” you cannot throw that first stone. I believe MJ was more widely loved all over the world than any other artist, possibly ever. And I ALSO believe that he was one of the most ostracized artists in the world…possibly ever as well. I hope with our small Tribute to his life and art we can help more people see his beauty than did before. It’s important to realize the beauty that we each have contact with while it is still in our lives. MJ wherever you are…we thank you and hope to make you proud with this small tribute. We miss you. We invite you all to join us in this tribute on May 8, 2010 for two performances (2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.) at the Midvale Main Street Theatre. FOOTLOOSE AUDITIONS!

January 15, 2010

FOOTLOOSE AUDITIONS!

Footloose is the story of Ren, a young man who moves to a small, religious town with his mother after his father abandons them. This town has regulations that are so strict that even rock ‘n roll music and dancing are banned. Ren takes on the task of convincing the Reverend Moore to let the town High School Students dance again. This is a fun production with upbeat music and high-energy dancing!

There are many roles in Footloose for ages 13 and up (including several adult roles). We are looking for enthusiastic, high-energy performers with a desire to bring that enthusiasm alive on stage. If you are a dancer, singer, actor, we would love to see what you have to offer!

Auditions for Footloose are at the Midvale Main Street Theatre on Wednesday, January 20, 2009 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Please be prepared with a Monologue (or reading), a song of your choice (you may do this with a CD or A’ Capella), and to dance!

Open auditions for ages 13 and up are Wednesday, January 20, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

We look forward to seeing you there!
